What we believe

TENETS OF FAITH (9/2014)

  1.  THE WORD OF GOD
We believe that the Bible is the inspired Word of God to us. It is the written revelation of God to men and women. It shows the impeccable order of our faith and how God leads his people. [2 Timothy 3:16-17; 2 Peter 1:21] The Bible gives us practical and spiritual guidance for everyday life.

2. THE ONE TRUE GOD
We believe that there is only one God, who exists forever in perfect community as three persons: Father, Son, and the Holy Spirit. [Deuteronomy 6:4; Mark 12:29; Ephesians 2:18]

3. JESUS CHRIST
We believe that Jesus of Nazareth is the promised Christ and the Son of God [Mark 16:16]: born of the Virgin Mary; tempted as we are, but lived a sinless life; the reality of his miracles; his redemption death as a substitute for us; his physical resurrection from the dead; his triumphing ascension and constant intercession for us before the Father; his coming back in glory and power. [Isaiah 7:14; Matthew 1:23; Hebrews 4:15; Acts 2:22-24; Luke 24:51; Hebrews 7:26; Matthew 24:30; 1. Thess. 4:15-17]

4. PEOPLE, SIN AND SALVATION
a) Humans as men and women were created in the image of God. „Let us make men in our image, according to our likeness.“ [Genesis 1:26-31]
b) Humans have fallen short of God’s standards and have sinned and are therefore subject to physical and spiritual death, which means separation from God. [Genesis 3.1-7; 1 King 8:46; Romans 3:23; Ephesians 2:1-5]
c) Our only hope is salvation through Jesus Christ, the Son of God.
[John 14:6; Romans 5:12-21]

5. SALVATION
a) The grace of God for salvation reaches people through Jesus’ calling: „Repent and believe in the Gospel“. This experience which is described as a “conversion from the old nature” and as a “new birth” is performed by the Holy Spirit and only takes place as a consequence of repentance and faith in Jesus Christ. By grace a person is made righteous through faith and receives hope for an eternal life. [Titus 2:11; Mark 1:15; Romans 10:9-17; John 3:5; 1 Peter 1:23; 1 Timothy 2:5-6; Romans 3:21-26]
b) This inner certainty of our personal salvation is the testimony of the Holy Spirit. [Romans 8:16; 1 John 5:9-12]

6. BAPTISM
a) To provide baptism through ducking a person under water is a command of Jesus. All who repent and believe in their hearts in Jesus Christ as their savior and Lord should be baptized and added to the church.
[Matthew 28:19; Mark 16:16; Acts 2:38; 10:47-48]
b) Baptism is a sign for the experienced cleansing from sin through the blood of Jesus Christ. [Acts 22:16]
c) Baptism is a public announcement testifying the death of the old sinful life and the new life in Christ. [Romans 6:3-8; Colossians 2:12]

7. BAPTISM IN THE HOLY SPIRIT
a) To be baptized in the Holy Spirit is a promise of God, the Father [Luke 24:49] and can already happen immediately when a person converts from his sins and with the new birth of that person. [Acts 10:43-46; 11:15-16] However, baptism can also take place later on. [Acts 8:12-17; 9:17; 19:4-6]
b) Through baptism with the Holy Spirit a believer is empowered to serve God in order to witness Jesus Christ with power. [Acts 1:8] It can be accompanied with speaking in tongues. [Acts 2:4; 10:45-46; 19:6] This speaking in different tongues is – from the outside – the same as the gift of speaking in tongues [1 Corinthians 12:7, 10, 30], but has a different purpose and is applied differently. [1 Corinthians 14:2, 4]
c) The gifts (charisma) are distributed by the Holy Spirit in his godly sovereignty with the purpose of mutually building each other up as believers and with the purpose of serving the world. [1 Corinthians 12:11] Each believer should pursue these gifts of the Spirit eagerly. [1 Corinthians 12:31; 14:1, 11]

8. THE CHURCH
a) The church in the New Testament was inaugurated by Jesus Christ himself and is a crucial element of God’s salvation plan. [Matthew 16:18; Ephesians 3:2-1]) Jesus is the head and the church is his body. [Ephesians 5:23, 30, 32; Colossians 1:18; Romans 12:5]
b) Each born-again believer belongs to the global church of Jesus Christ, which is organized in local churches.
c) As a spiritual home to all baptized believers the church is the local community of life, faith and service, through which God proclaims salvation in the world. [Matthew 18:15–22; Ephesians 2:19-22; 4:7-14; 1 Peter 1:9]

9. LORD’S SUPPER
With the Lord’s Supper the church proclaims the death and resurrection of Jesus until his coming again. In the Lord’s Supper believers celebrate their community with each other and meet their exalted Lord.
[Matthew 26:26-28; Mark 14:22-24; Luke 22:19-20; Acts 2:42; 1 Corinthians 10:16-17; 11:23-26]

10. SANCTIFICATION
a) The grace of God empowers believers to live a sanctified life.
[John 17:19; 1 Corinthians 1:30; 1 Thessalonians 5:23; Hebrews 10:10]
b) This sanctified life [Hebrews 12:14; 1 Peter 1:15-16] is made visual by the fruits of the Spirit. [Galatians 5:22-25; Ephesians 4:15]

11. DIVINE HEALING
We believe in the divine healing based on the salvation act of Jesus and encourage prayer of faith.
[Exodus 15:26; Isaiah 53:4; Mark 16:17-20; James 5:14-15]

12. RAPTURE
The coming again of Jesus for his church is the future and living hope of all believers. By this time those believers who were dead in Christ will be resurrected in a non-physical body and those believers who are alive will be transformed, and so we will be raptured together towards the Lord who is coming back for his church.
[1 Corinthians 15:51-52; 1 Thessalonians 4:16-18; 2 Corinthians 11:2]

13. MILLENIUM
The coming again of Jesus as the Lord and King of this earth occurs to save Israel and to establish the 1.000-year-reign of peace, in which Jesus will rule Jerusalem. During this time Satan is bound.
[Isaiah 11:1-10; Zach 14:3-9; Revelation 19:11-16; 20:1-6]

14. JUDGEMENT DAY
Compared to the first resurrection [Revelation 20:5-6] the second resurrection happens for judgment. [Revelation 20:11-15; 20:10]

15. NEW HEAVEN – NEW EARTH
“We are awaiting for a new heaven and a new earth, in which His righteousness dwells according to his promises!” [2 Peter 3:13; Revelation 21:1-7]
